For the Project of a custom DJ image USB Shaped Flash Drive, I would possibly use kickstarter as a venue to raise capital and test if it is a need that people would want. As a channel where many other successful start ups have been able to raise funds to launch their product, not only do crowd fundraiser help start ups to test their idea and see how much of a want there is for it, but also have the ability to raise money to cover their initial MOQ (Minimum order quantity) that many supplier and manufacturers require, but also the cost for design, product development, web development to name a few. If and when success with the project I would definitely reinvest 100% of profit into the growth of the product line in order to continue to grow, and spend some funds on marketing, and having the ability to reach retail stores after a solid time of selling the product online only. The product would need to be patented if they are designs which I come up with, however currently I am working on getting licensing from world known DJs to be able to product a replica figure of them on a customized USB Flash drive. With the licensing of the DJs I would have in essence the protection of their established copyrights which would in return take out the risks of copying the products by other competitors.
Depending on the idea you have, there are many ways to be able to generate a solid business plan. By either being a wholesaler of an existing product, licensing a product, or building a product or design from scratch which later involves getting protection by copyrights, patents.
